Want to know how to save money EVERY SINGLE TIME you go to the grocery store?

Here’s the first step. If you do this, you are guaranteed to save money while eating healthy. After the first step, I’ll show you how to make sure you’re saving the MOST money and eating as healthy as you possibly can.

First, here’s the question that inspired this post:

Teach me how to grocery shop! I’m kind of not good at grocery shopping and saving money. We are family planning and I would like to save where I can. We are a no chemical/GMO/Gluten-free household. So naturally, shopping that way can be pricey. Can you help me?! I’d be greatly appreciative!

– Kate, from Texas

I love where Kate comes from because she has a specific goal in mind. She and her husband are trying to start a family, and they’re trying to guard their health in the process.

Kate already has an excellent start.

Find Your Why

Coaches apply the concept of finding your Why to everything – losing weight, building a business, goal setting, physical therapy. I want to encourage you to do the same here.

If you’re just trying to save money because it sounds like a good idea, cookie dough ice cream will sound a lot better when you’re at the grocery store and it’s on sale.

Your Why has to be something that puts a little fire in your bones, something you’re excited about. Something that will make you put that cookie dough in its place.

Find Your Why

My Why

My Why’s have changed over the years depending on the season and circumstances. Here are a few of them:

  1. As broke newlyweds, we didn’t want to choose between eating and keeping our health insurance.
  2. We wanted to move out of state and needed to pay bills for several months while we job hunted.
  3. Our sons had food allergies, and we couldn’t increase our grocery budget to accommodate expensive alternatives.
  4. We wanted to buy a home.

Each of those Why’s was tied to one of two things – survival or big dreams. Nothing else has ever motivated me enough to save money. It either has to be vital to our survival (being broke and needing to pay bills, having children with food allergies), or a dream that cannot occur without my active participation through the grocery budget.

When I picture my family living in a paid-for home, I can tell that ice cream where it gets off.

So what’s your Why? What do you need or want badly enough that will help you say no to extra dessert or another night of take out?

Decide your why, and then you’re ready to win.

After Your Why

If you want to learn step-by-step how to save the MOST money and eat as healthy as possible, join the free Cheapskate Cook List. For the next couple weeks, I’ll break down the process into actionable steps.

Here on the blog, we’ll keep talking about saving money and eating healthy in the New Year – I’ll share recipes and frugal, real food Super Bowl ideas. In the emails, we’ll get down to more details about saving money at the grocery store every time you go.

Free Coaching Session!

Starting this month, I’m also choosing two people from the email list to have a one-on-one conversation with about your specific money and food goals and how you can crush (crunch? ha) them. You could call it a coaching session, but I’m not nearly fancy enough for that. We can talk for 10 minutes for a full hour – whatever you need.

If those two FREE opportunities sound like something you want or need, get them here. As a bonus, you’ll also get the free Simple & Frugal Menu Plan.

WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW:

  1. Leave a comment below, sharing your why.
  2. Sign up for the free weekly emails. If you REALLY want to talk this month, drop me a note, and I’ll see if we can set something up!
